Owen R Lee
Owen R Lee was born in Christchurch in 1918. He attended the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts studying under Archibald Nichol, Cecil Kelly, Austen Deans, and B. Sutton. Owen later studied in Brittany in 1955. He is inspired by nature, where he centers his inspiration on the South Island and Canterbury heartland, whereby capturing atmospheric effects. He has produced many figure drawings and paintings as well as some woodcuts. Owen won the Kelliher Art Award, has exhibited many times at the Paris Salon and was elected a Fellow at the Royal Society of Arts (London) in 1962. He is represented in Te Papa, Christchurch Art Gallery, Anderson Park, and Aigantighe. | |
