Born in Dunedin, Geoff initially trained as a sign writer under his father, and began his career as a sign writer and screen printer. A realist artist, he has been professionally painting for a number of years. While he focuses on the 'common place' or 'everyday' (from a seagull to fruit and vegetables, landscapes and nudes) his works take on a life of their own through his painstaking cross-hatching technique and his manipulation of light and shade. Each painting begins with a detailed preliminary pencil sketch, from which the painting is then developed. He tends to use strong side lighting, bringing to life the objects he paints. Highly labour intensive, his method can take up to six weeks to produce just one artwork. Highly sought after, Geoff's work is represented in private collections in Switzerland, Canada, Australia, London, Japan, Germany, America and throughout New Zealand.
