Custom-Made Frames and Stretchers

Merivale Fine Arts specialises in custom framing and no job is too small, or too difficult! We have extensive experience framing a wide variety of works, from antique art (using only conservation materials) through to contemporary works on canvas and paper, degrees/certificates and photographs. We will also stretch (either using the traditional cross-stitching method or modern backings) and frame embroidery and cross-stitch.

We also mount commemorative items in lovely  mixed-media displays including medals, sports shirts, baby booties, certificates and photographs and can we can arrange special engraved brass plaques if desired.

We have decorative mouldings from Europe and New Zealand with over 400 samples to choose from. Selection ranges from simple NZ pine-based frames through to Italian gilt frames, from very modern, to traditional.

Other framing services include making stretchers to order and these can be gesso'd as required.

Framing for Weddings and Christenings

Merivale Fine Arts specialises in providing quality framing for wedding and christening portraits and photographs, from the most basic framing to the most up-market frames that you could possibly wish for.

Christenings

When we have a christening, we take plaster moulds of the baby's feet or hands and then we feature the moulds as part of the frame corners or as the item to be framed itself. This is a very beautiful and individual way to celebrate the birth of your child. We also do this for children of any ages celebrating their birthday.

Weddings

Apart from the normal to very up market frames we do for this occasion, we also have the special service of the couple doing a casting of their hands holding, the cast is then gilded and framed.




Cleaning and Repairing/Restoring Ornamental and Antique Frames

Merivale Fine Arts also provides a cleaning and repair/restoration service for highly ornamental and antique frames. Some before and after pictures are provided below of an antique frame that was restored. Colour matching is very precise, in the example below, the colour was lifted per the customer's instructions. Frames can also be even an 'aged' appearance where appropriate. Gilding (gold/silver leaf) can also be applied if required.

Many antique and contemporary frames become available through the normal course of business. We are now in a position to offer these to the public. We have a matt cutting service to suit your requirements. All frames can be couriered.
